Where We Started

Our History

The L.S.B.B.A. was founded in 1944. It was organized in 1947 at a mass meeting at BookerT. Washington auditorium in New Orleans, Louisiana by Mr. O.C. Taylor.

On July 15, 1950, theorganization was incorporated with the following members serving asofficers:

  • President – Mrs. Katie Whickham, New Orleans
  • 1st Vice President – Mrs. Carrie L. Taylor, Baton Rouge
  • 2nd Vice President – Mrs. Mary Craig Johnson, New Orleans
  • 3rd Vice President – Mrs.Katie Robinson, Monroe
  • Corr. Secretary – Mrs. Elnoris Rollins, New Orleans
  • Assist. Secretary – Mrs. Edith Haynes, Ferriday
  • Financial Secretary – Mrs. Mamie Love, Shreveport
  • Treasure – Mrs. Flossie Reeves, Shreveport

It is my honor and privilege to serve as President of this great organization. As we move forwardinto a new era, our focus is centered on growth, unity, education, and opportunity for everybeautician, barber, instructor, and industry professional across the state of Louisiana and beyond.

The future of the Louisiana State Beauticians and Barbers Association is built on strengthening ourLocal chapters, expanding our membership, and creating meaningful opportunities for professionaldevelopment, continuing education, and leadership. We are committed to building strong Locals inevery region, empowering professionals to connect, collaborate, and grow within theircommunitieswhile maintaining the high standards and legacy that our organization represents.

Membership is the heart of our organization. Through membership, we create a network ofprofessionals who support one another, share knowledge, develop leadership skills, and worktogether to elevate the beauty and barbering industry. Our goal is to increase engagement, developnew leaders, and ensure that every member feels valued, supported, and equipped for success intheir career.

As President, I am dedicatedto moving this organization forward with vision, transparency, andpurpose. Together, we will continue to build a stronger association, expand our reach, and create afuture that honors our legacy while embracing innovation and growth.
